Kesaia 18 month Check-Up

Yesterday Kesaia had an appointment with Dr. Vierra for her 18 month check up (though she's 19 months now).  Her height seems to be fine, however her Dr. was concerned for her weight.  She's on 19 lbs 10 oz. and according to their ''charts'' she's too skinny.  All I could think of was my sisters.  I explained that in my family, I'm the fattest one. LOL. And that's my sisters are the same way, they eat but don't gain.  She asked if Kesaia eats her meals, and I assured her she does eat (as in we DO feed her lol) and sometimes she can eat more than her brother.  She gave me a list of ways to help up her calories, and let me tell you it shocked me (I'll explain later).  And because we were all just getting over a cold, she was a little concerned cause she didn't sound too good, and she saw that she had an ear infection.  She gave some albuterol (with the nebulizer) and she was happy to hear it clear it up rather quickly, and there was no pneumonia (thank goodness).  So now we're faced with congestion, ear infection, and her being too skinny.

Dr. Vierra then went on to discuss ear tubes.  Baby Moe had to have ear tubes put in because he just had a lot of ear infections, and it seemed as if he couldn't ever drain that liquid out. He's had the tubes in since April and has not had one ear infection since then, and that's what Dr. Vierra is thinking of doing for Kesaia.  She had a quite a few ear infections, or maybe just one that didn't go away, earlier this year.  And now she has another one, so she suspects that maybe she's been dealing with one infection after another, that she's just not able to gain weight.  We ended up drawing some blood, to run some tests, and then she sent us off to get some meds for ear infection and to clear her lungs. Now back to that list of foods that can help increase calorie intake.  To me, Kesaia is a lot skinnier than most 1 year olds, however, she doesn't lack in anything else.  She's really smart. At the appointment Kesaia kept talking to me asking for things, and Dr. Vierra said "wow, she is really good talking, she really pronounces words nicely" and I agreed, then she said "you must be reading a lot of books to her..." lol.  Of course I agreed, but in my mind I was like "no, she's just really smart and picks up really quickly what we teach her" lol.
She can definitely fatten up on ice-cream! LOL

Anyhow, back to that list. At first I started reading it, and it talked about putting vegetable oil in their food, or using milk or creams instead of water (like in soups), or having a lot of dipping sauces for them, and even ice-cream! Okay, they should've warned me that this list wasn't going to be healthy ways, it was going to be fattening ways (of course, hello we're trying to increase calories!) lol.  I was just shocked at all the foods they say you should feed them, because in the end when she's obese, they'll say she shouldn't eat any of those foods. Lol, isn't that ironic! Anywayz, we just decided we'd make more of an effort to make sure she's eating more, and actually sitting there with her while she takes her time to eat.

Oh the motherly duties (and worries) it NEVER ends! lol

**Other than that, our family is doing great. Fehi and I are trying to finish out this semester, and plan our thanksgiving! :)

Giving Thanks: Day 10 & 11

I apologize, cause I'm realizing that I have sucked in writing everyday. So here's my "giving thanks" for yesterday and today :)

Day 10: I'm grateful for all my trials and tribulations.

Yes you heard me, ALLL my trials and tribulations! They have made me cry, angry, upset (big difference from angry lol) and frustrated.  However they've also humbled me, made me very appreciative, and have made me a stronger, better person.  We all experience different trials and tribulations, but I believe it's the way you react to them, that makes you either grow from them or not. I've had my fair share of trials from disagreements, to divorce (not me.. my parents lol) and also a miscarriage, but I can look back on each trial, big and small, and I can say that they've only made me become the person I am today. :)(

Day 11: I'm grateful for Heavenly Father and all his blessings he continues to provide my family.

Everyday I see more and more what he's done for me, from little things to big things, and I can't help but feel loved and so amazed at how much he loves me.  He's forgiven me time and time again, and he's listened to me complain, beg, cry, and plead all in the same prayer (lol).  :) I'm just overjoyed and grateful for all the blessings he's given me! :)

Baby News :)

This post I'm writing on 11/11/11, I probably won't publish it until later.  But I wanted to get down in writing, the excitement and gratitude our little family has been feeling.  Since my last post about getting pregnant (here) my husband and I decided that we would continue to do what we needed to do, but also put forth the effort in conceiving. All we could hope for was that my "friend" would not come around this month.  November 3 (exactly a month from the first day of my LMP) was the day that I was expecting my friend, well not expecting it really (cause I didn't want it) rather I was waiting to see if it would appear.  Let me rewind a little bit, a little before halloween we went to the Dollar Tree and I had grabbed a couple of pregnancy tests.  I decided to take a test, knowing that whatever the result may be (negative, false negative) that it didn't mean that I wasn't pregnant because I knew it was too early since I hadn't actually missed my period.  So after taking the test I seen that it said "negative" but I didn't pay much attention to it cause I knew it was too early, but I was just curious to see if it would turn out positive.

Well November 3rd came and gone.  So that was a good thing for me, because I'm never late on my period.  So I decided that I would wait at least 5 days before taking a pregnancy test.  Well that didn't last long because I woke up the next morning (on November 4th) and decided I wanted to take the test.  I went to grab the box under the sink and when I went to grab the test, I noticed it was the test I had already taken.  The crazy thing is, when I looked at the test again, it was now positive. I guess I didn't wait long enough for it to show up, but there it was 2 lines. :) I took the second test anyways just as a confirmation, and it did come back positive as well.  I was so excited, yet so relieved because we had waited so long and wondered when we were going to get pregnant again.  I started crying, and called my husband, who was at work, and when he answered he could hear the different tone in my voice so he asked me what was wrong.  And I told him "Babe, I'm pregnant" and you could just feel his smile through the phone.

He told me how excited he was, and how happy he was.  I told him not to tell anyone, and that I wouldn't tell anyone, just because of what happened the last time (you can read about it here and here).  This time I'm keeping this in our little family, because I want to be able to cherish it.  I feel myself more at peace, and not needing to put my pregnancy out there for the world to be part of just yet.  This pregnancy is special because it's one we've been waiting since April for, so for about 7 months.  I know other women go through much longer times of waiting, but 7 months was long and hard especially with having miscarried.  I'm especially grateful for Heavenly Father and his blessings.  This trial has really humbled me, it has changed me, and has made me that much more grateful and appreciative of the womanly gifts that I have. Everyday we pray for the safety our family, and especially for the safety and growth of our little one.

The day I decide to announce my pregnancy will probably be after the 1st trimester, maybe when we find out what we're having, unless I start to show before that (I show really quick in the beginning) and people question me lol. I'm just really humbled and want to enjoy this pregnancy, it's amazing that Heavenly Father gives us this gift, to be able to bring another soul into this world. I feel privileged and loved that he would trust me to be a mother to two angels, and now another on the way. :)

Giving Thanks: Day 7, 8, and 9 :)

So I'm gonna cheat a little bit, cause this post deserves to have 3 days worth (even more) of giving thanks!  :)

Today I'm giving thanks, and am so grateful for my Mother: Kesaia Ongoongotau Mafile'o.  All my life she has always worked full-time to support our family, and she was always that mother that made sure to take her children to church.  That's especially one thing I'm grateful for, because even though our father didn't  take us to church every Sunday, my mom, without fail, got up every morning and made sure we all went to church.  She sacrificed so much, and even continued with her schooling while we were in high school.  She completed with her certificate in Medical Assisting, and has continued to work with the same company since then. She continually provides love and support for me and my family, especially my husband.  She actually never met Fehi until she came up for our wedding, but she has loved him and has treated him like a son since day one.  Sometimes they'll gang up on me and it's me against my mom and my husband lol.  This woman is my superhero, she's endured so much in her life to better our lives.  She's my hero, and I'm grateful for the wonderful relationship I and my family have with her.  LOVE you mom!

Giving thanks: Day 5 & 6

So I totally missed my "giving thanks" yesterday... I've been sick since last tuesday and yesterday I wasn't too congested but for some reason I was very light headed so my awesome husband let me sleep basically all day until this morning when I woke up for work. So here's today and yesterday's "thanks"!!

Day 5: I'm very grateful for my health. Because of my health in able to do the things I can do. I'm able to go to work, and take care of my family amongst all things.

Day 6: I'm very grateful for the opportunity to go to school. I'm especially grateful for programs such as pell grants and scholarships that help afford my goal of going to school.

Happy days of giving thanks!!! :)

BTW, Kahuku won OIA Championships and they even did a flash mob!!! :)
